On Thursday, the Co-operative University was on the receiving end after a campaign banner that suggested that dressing indecently leads to rape went viral on social media.
In the campaign, that was allegedly organized by the Students Governing Council read;
“Dress how you want to be addressed. A woman should always dress to be remembered, not simply to be noticed .Indecent dressing leads to sexual harassment & rape.”
After a lot of bashing, on Friday the Co-operative issued a public apology, confirming that it does not condone any form of Gender Based Violence or harassment of any kind. The apology went further to state that the banner was not approved by the University’s Management and was consequently brought down once the matter was brought to their attention.
But in a twisted turn of events, a Student leader at the institution revealed that the University approved the banner and it was the Public Relations Officer not the Students Governing Council did not take part in the making of the banner.
