Deputy President started his three day visit to the lake side region on Tuesday and expected to complete by on Thursday. The lake side seems to be the political bedroom for the ODM leader, Raila Odinga.
Ruto urged residents to support him in his presidential bid. He further said that he will include nyanza leaders in the government. He also told the residents about his bottom-up economic model.
Ruto also acknowledged that the region has been left behind in development by political leaders over the past years. Ruto meet with UDA leaders at Suzanna Owiyo art centre and he said, “Leaders at my level haven’t taken time to engage you and listen to you.”
Ruto promised to always consult the leaders from the lake side region. He said, “We will not come up with plans without consultations with the grassroots.”
Ruto noted that the region was ready for him and wanted their issues to be sorted by his government. Ruto said, “You have confirmed to the rest of the country that you are ready to engage in a discourse that highlights your issues. It is an eye opener.”
Ruto promised that he will always listen to the suggestion of Kenyans concerning their problems. He said, “I have been in politics long enough to understand it is important to listen to people and allow them to make suggestions on how they can improve their lot.” He showed that he has already learnt the important of voice of people in a country.
He further showed his concern for the region by saying he will give them priority to give their concerns and agenda that will form his government. He said, “We must change the course of our politics free from ethnic-based approach and consideration. I want us to critically have a discussion on what is of priority to you, what concerns and the agenda you want us to have when we form government.”
He showed his concern on issues affecting sugarcane farmers. He said, “We have a serious issue in the sugar sector. We have a deficit while farmers are not treated well.”
On 10th November 2021, Ruto is expected to visit Migori and finish his journey on Thursday of 11th November 2021 in Homabay.
