New leadership in Nairobi

Nairobi county deputy governor Anne Kananu will now be sworn in as the third Nairobi county governor. The Supreme Court gave the go ahead despite sonko’s effort to delay the exercise.

The supreme gave a go ahead to the committee that was to sworn in Anne Kananu. Sonko went to court to delay the sworning of kananu due to his pending case. Following this ruling it is now clear that Kananu will be sworn in as the next governor. Kananu will be the first woman governor in Nairobi. Furthermore, she will be responsible for appointing a deputy governor and a new cabinet.

Sonko was impeached in December 2021 and his impeachment was approved by the senate. Sonko started his journey in courts with each court keeping the stand that he should not be in office. After the Supreme Court ruling, sonko seemed to be satisfied with the decision. Sonko said that he is convinced with the decision. He added that time will come when he shall serve Kenyans. He also said that people live to fight another day.

Sonko said, “I concede defeat by accepting the Supreme Court’s verdict this afternoon. God’s timing is the best and a time will come when he’ll give me another chance to serve Kenyans in any capacity.’’

He further added that, ‘‘I’m forever grateful for the opportunity I had working for you, I will continue doing so. For now we leave everything to God. We live to fight another day, however, alluta continua as life must go on.”

This paves way for swearing of Kananu and new leadership in City Park.
