Marsabit: Six Dead, 11 Injured in Highway Ambush

Six people have been reportedly killed and eleven others injured after a lorry ferrying passengers from Marsabit township to Bardasa Manyatta was ambushed by armed men on the night of November 4.

A report by the National police said that the unknown bandits opened fire and started shooting indiscriminately at the vehicle after they ambushed the driver.

Those injured were rushed to a nearby health facility where they are receiving treatment while the other six died on the spot.

“The injured were rushed to Marsabit Referral Hospital. Police are pursuing the bandits who disappeared after the attack,” the police stated.

Leaders from the region have condemned the attack, terming it as a well-calculated move.

“Clearly, this is a well-calculated move engineered to inflict the highest amount of pain on the members of the Borana community and to slow down the activities of the county government so that we cannot make any economic progress.

Whenever there are activities that we plan, then the executors of these terrible acts normally move into action.” Stated Marsabit Governor, Mohamud Ali.

The attack was staged 24hours after 14 people were killed and five others critically injured in a gunfight in Samburu county.
