On Friday, October 29, 2021, a 65-year-old man dies after he was attacked by a swarm of bees at their home in Kotunga village, in Kisumu East Sub County.
It was stated by the witnesses that, the deceased was attacked by a swarm of bees when he was on a mission to rescue his 85-year-old father who was attacked at first at their home.
The bees are said to have turned on the deceased after he waged a war with them as he tried to rescue his frail father from the hundreds of bees.
Father to deceased survived the attack but was seriously injured and later was rushed to the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital (JOOTRH) while in critical condition.
Chief Tobias Omollo of the Kjulu West location confirmed the incident – noting that the deceased succumbed to the be stings.
“The deceased braved the bees – to cover his frail father with a blanket and managed to rescue him from being stung any further. Unfortunately, the bees turned on him and stung him to death,” the chief said.
According to witnesses the bees were housed at a hive right inside their compound and were triggered by intense noise from a nearby lorry that was ferrying sand in the neighborhood.
