KEBS: 14 Maize Flour Brands Substandard, Recalled

The Kenya Bureau of Standard (KEBS) has recalled 14 maize flour brands for allegedly producing substandard flour.

The standards body has ordered for the recall of the flour and an immediate halt to distribution in the country. It has further directed the companies to remove the brands from the market shelves, warning that the flour is unfit for human consumption.

All retailers have also been petitioned to remove the affected brands from their shelves with immediate effect.

According to KEBS, the brands to be recalled are Ndovu Maize Flour, Prestige Sifted Maize, Range Corn, sima Tamu, Top White, Winnies Ugali Afya, Bel’s Organic, Diamond Sifted Maize, Family, Jasiri Maize flour, Jema sifted Maize, Jibe Maize Flour, Jodari and Mugambo Sifted Maize Meal.

The body clarified that the directive was not a permanent ban but a temporary measure to give room for the necessary corrective action to be undertaken by the concerned manufacturers towards eliminating any anomalies in their production and packaging processes.

KEBS also warned the millers to demonstrate compliance with the batches yet to be tested before they are put in the market.
