The confederation of African Football has canceled today’s CAF Confederations Cup preliminary round second leg match between Gor Mahia and Al Ahly Merowe following the withdrawal of the visiting team.

Emad Shenouda, the manager of interclub competitions, has released a statement indicating that Gor Mahia has qualified for the next preliminary round.

“In reference to the above-mentioned match, we would like to inform you that the Sudanese federation has communicated the withdrawal of the club Ahly Merowe from the competition.

We hereby inform you that the match is canceled and Gor Mahia has qualified for the additional 2nd round of the competition.” The statement reads in part

“The host federation is kindly requested to proceed with the payment of all financial dues to the officials. A detailed decision will be communicated to all concerned parties in due course.” Reads the statement.

The second leg of the match was set to be played at the Nyayo Stadium in Nairobi at 4 pm EAT.

The first leg of the game was played last week in Egypt at the New Suez stadium as the host team did not have any FIFA-approved stadium in Sudan.

Gor Mahia had one step into the next round following the 3-1 scoreline in their favor last Friday night.

An earlier statement by the FKF had indicated that the game would be played behind closed doors as the ministry of sports has not yet allowed fans into stadia.

This was despite K’ogalo revealing that the government had allowed them to have up to 10,000 fans attend the game.
