George Magokha: Government Placement of Students in Private University Must go on

Cabinet secretary of education George Magokha dismissed a proposal to stop the placement of Government-sponsored students in private universities.

He insists the process must go on.

It comes after his principal secretary in charge of university education, Simon Nabukwesi had told the Parliament Committee that the Ministry of Education does not support the plan.

“Let me believe that my PS was not misquoted on this and if not he was speaking for himself because he is not in charge of policy.  As the CS in charge of the Ministry  I’m not aware of such plans” says Magokha.

According to the law in the constitution,  it indicates, section 56 (1) (a) of the University Act states Kenya universities and colleges’ central placement services (KUCCPS) shall co-ordinate the placement of the government-sponsored students to universities and colleges.

Magokha added that analysis by his Ministry revealed that is cheaper to admit students to private universities.
