Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, has called his supporters to use weapons in order to stop an advance by Tigrayan rebel forces. This comes as the Tigrayan forces has ruled out talks with the government.
The rebel forces has been accused of killing dozens of civilians in Kombolcha town, which the rebel general Tsadkan Gebretensae, has occasionally denied the claims.
Mr Abiy issued a statement via facebook saying it was the duty of citizens to block, destroy and bury the rebel forces. This statement comes after the rebel alleged that they had gained territories in the Amhara region and getting closer to the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa.
The United Nations estimates about 400,000 people in the Tigray region are living in famine-like conditions since the confict broke, about a year ago. Several million people are also reported displayed by the region war.
